Synopsis
Maxime, a young man in his mid-20s, works in a mine far from the city. He spends 14 days at the mine and 14 days off at home. When he is at home in Val-d’or, he shares his time with his girlfriend and his childhood friend Julien. Julien is disabled because of a car accident caused by Maxime two years earlier. Consumed with guilt, Maxime wants to redeem himself. But he is hampered by Mario, Julien’s father who also works at the mine and still blames him. One day, an explosion occurs in the mine. As part of the rescue mission, Maxime goes underground, determined to save his friends and colleagues and bring them alive.

Director's statement
With "Underground", I wanted to explore what it means to fight for recognition in a space that resists you. Set in the demanding world of underground industrial labor, the film follows a young woman determined to prove herself in an environment shaped by toughness, hierarchy, and unspoken rules. I focused on physicality—the weight of the machinery, the darkness, the exhaustion—to reflect the protagonist’s inner pressure. The confined setting becomes both battleground and mirror, revealing how ambition, pride, and vulnerability coexist. **Ultimately, the film suggests** that identity is forged under pressure, and that the desire to belong can be as consuming—and as dangerous—as the need to succeed.
