Geneva, since 2004

Independent production. International cinema.

Bord Cadre films is an independent production company based in Geneva, Switzerland, founded by producer Dan Wechsler and filmmaker Laurent Nègre. Since 2004, we have produced and co-produced ambitious films for the international market, working with filmmakers whose distinctive voices and artistic visions deserve to reach audiences around the world. Our productions have premiered and received recognition at Cannes, Venice, Berlin, Locarno, Sundance and San Sebastián, among others. Over more than two decades, Bord Cadre has built a strong international network of filmmakers, producers, financiers, institutions, sales agents and distributors. We combine the experience required to manage complex international productions with the independence to make bold creative choices.

Our story

Twenty years of films, encounters and international collaborations.

From the beginning, the company was conceived as a place where strong artistic ideas could be transformed into internationally produced films. Our identity was shaped through experience: developing projects across borders, building complex co-productions, bringing together public and private financing, and accompanying films from their earliest stages to festivals and audiences worldwide. Along the way, we have worked with established filmmakers as well as emerging voices, building long-term relationships across Europe, Latin America, Asia and beyond. Each production has expanded our knowledge, our network and our understanding of what a singular film needs in order to succeed.

Our ambition

We turn ambitious projects into internationally produced films.

Bord Cadre develops, finances, produces and co-produces feature films and documentaries for the international market:

creative and strategic development / financing and international co-production / production and post-production / festival and market strategy / relationships with sales agents and distributors / partnerships with institutions, private investors and cultural organisations

Every project presents a different combination of artistic, financial and international challenges. Our role is to design the structure that allows the film to exist without losing what makes it distinctive, as well as bringing together the right filmmakers, producers, institutions, investors and industry partners.

Our vision

Great films change the way we see the world.

At a time when stories are increasingly shaped by algorithms and formulas, we believe independent cinema must remain a space for freedom, discovery and artistic risk.

We stand behind filmmakers with a world of their own — filmmakers who challenge expectations and create new ways of seeing.

Turning their vision into an international film requires more than conviction. It demands experience, strategy and the right creative and financial partners.

Our role is to bring these elements together, protecting what makes each project unique while giving it the strongest possible path to audiences worldwide.

Where do we come from?

An independent signature

Bord Cadre Films was founded in Geneva in 2004 by Dan Wechsler and Laurent Nègre, with the conviction that a Swiss production company could participate fully in the most vibrant currents of international cinema.

Its identity was not invented in advance. It was revealed over time — through bold choices, enduring relationships and encounters with filmmakers whose work challenged conventions and crossed borders.

From Cannes to Berlin, Venice, Locarno and Sundance, each collaboration has added a new dimension to the signature of the house.

We come from twenty years of cinema, curiosity and trust.

Where do we go?

Toward the unexpected

The future of Bord Cadre Films will continue to be written through encounters. With filmmakers whose voices have not yet been heard. With artists from other disciplines. With producers and institutions from new territories. With private partners who see cinema not simply as content, but as culture, emotion and legacy.

We want to deepen what makes Bord Cadre Films distinctive: the freedom to choose, the precision of each collaboration and privileged access to an international circle of creation.

We know where we come from. But what excites us most is what we have not yet encountered.

The team

A collective signature

Bord Cadre Films is a close-knit team at the heart of a remarkable international constellation.

Over the years, our path has crossed those of Ruben Östlund, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Cristi Puiu, Carlos Reygadas, Ulrich Seidl, Radu Jude, Isaki Lacuesta, Kirill Serebrennikov, Marcela Saïd, Ciro Guerra, Cristina Gallego, Corneliu Porumboiu and Alejandro Landes, among many others.

Around them stand actors, cinematographers, editors, composers, designers and technicians — alongside coproducers, institutions, festivals, sales agents, distributors and private partners. Each has brought a sensibility, an expertise or a decisive gesture. Together, they form something greater than a network: a living community connected by films, trust and shared artistic experiences.
