L'Homme aux mille visages
directed by Sonia Kronlund
France | 2023 | 90min
He goes by the names of Alexandre, Ricardo or Daniel. He calls himself a surgeon or an engineer, Argentinean or Brazilian. He lives with four women at the same time, adapting his story and even his personality traits to each one. A first-person investigation, with the help of a private detective, into an impostor with a thousand imaginary lives.
When I made "The Man with a Thousand Faces", I wanted to explore the unsettling territory between truth and fabrication. Following the trail of a serial impostor who reinvents himself across identities, countries, and relationships, I was less interested in sensationalism than in the emotional impact on those deceived. Through interviews and reconstruction, I sought to reveal how easily trust can be manipulated—and how longing often blinds us to contradictions. The film ultimately suggests that identity is fragile and performative, and that the stories we choose to believe can shape our reality as powerfully as facts.
