Sonia Kronlund

Sonia Kronlund (b. 1966) is a French filmmaker, radio documentarian, and writer celebrated for her emotionally immersive storytelling and investigative rigor. An alumna of the École Normale Supérieure with a DEA in aesthetic philosophy from Sorbonne, she has helmed the daily radio documentary program Les Pieds sur terre on France Culture since 2002, giving voice to everyday French lives . A longtime correspondent in Iran, Afghanistan, and Japan, she directed her first feature document, Nothingwood (2017), profiling Afghanistan’s prolific B-movie auteur, Salim Shaheen . Her 2023 documentary The Man with a Thousand Faces (released 2024) follows a conman through the eyes of his victims, blending investigative cinema with empathetic narrative .
