Director's statement

When I made "The Harvesters", I wanted to explore rigid masculinity within an isolated Afrikaner farming community. Through the story of a sensitive teenage boy struggling under his father’s expectations, I examined how tradition can suffocate individuality. The harsh rural landscape mirrors emotional repression—beautiful, yet unforgiving. I was interested in the quiet violence of conformity, the way love can be withheld in the name of strength. **The film ultimately suggests** that inherited codes of masculinity can fracture families, and that vulnerability, though feared, may be the only path toward genuine connection.
