When I made "Schenglet", I wanted to approach migration and border politics through satire rather than solemnity. By following a naive village policeman suddenly tasked with enforcing the complexities of the Schengen agreements, I explored how large geopolitical decisions filter down into small, local absurdities. Humor allowed me to reveal contradictions—between national identity and European integration, between duty and common sense. The film ultimately suggests that bureaucracy often creates confusion rather than clarity, and that ordinary individuals are left to navigate rules that feel detached from lived reality. Through irony and warmth, I sought to humanize a debate too often reduced to slogans.
