Benjamín Naishtat

Benjamín Naishtat

Origin: Argentina

Benjamín Naishtat (b. 1986) is an Argentine director and screenwriter celebrated for politically charged, formally inventive storytelling. Educated at Universidad del Cine and Le Fresnoy, he debuted with History of Fear (2014, Berlin), a chilling allegory of paranoia. The Movement (2015, Locarno) reimagined Argentina’s past in stark black-and-white austerity. With Rojo (2018, San Sebastián Best Director), he crafted a suspenseful, atmospheric portrait of complicity before dictatorship. His co-directed Puan (2023, San Sebastián Best Screenplay) extended his blend of satire and social critique. Naishtat’s films balance genre tropes with political allegory, weaving dark humor, moral ambiguity, and visual precision to interrogate power and history.
