Alla Kovgan (b. 1973, Moscow) is a Russian-American filmmaker known for fusing dance, documentary, and experimental cinema. Co-founder of Kinodance and Boston’s Balagan Film Series, she gained recognition with Nora (2008), a poetic dance portrait shown worldwide. She co-directed the Emmy-nominated Traces of the Trade (2007) and edited My Perestroika (2010). Her acclaimed 3D feature Cunningham (2019) reimagined Merce Cunningham’s choreography through immersive spatial collage, cementing her reputation for boundary-defying, intermedia storytelling.
