When I made "The Whistlers", I wanted to play with the conventions of film noir while questioning language itself. The story follows a corrupt policeman who travels to the Canary Islands to learn an ancient whistling language used to communicate secretly. I was fascinated by how language can both reveal and conceal truth—how meaning shifts depending on who controls the code. I structured the film in chapters, embracing stylization, irony, and genre elements, because I was interested in the artificiality of crime narratives. **The film ultimately suggests** that communication is never neutral: whether spoken, whistled, or withheld, language is a tool of power, deception, and survival.
