Recruited by British Jew Thomas, Rachel is sent to Tehran as a Mossad agent to spy on businessman Farhad, but their subsequent affair puts their lives at risk. This suspenseful drama asks which is more powerful, service to nation or love? Written and directed by Yuval Adler (Bethlehem, Seduction), The Operative stars Diane Kruger (Welcome To Marwen, Inglourious Bastards) alongside Martin Freeman (Black Panther, Ghost Stories) and Cas Anvar (Room, The Lie).
When I made "The Operative", I wanted to explore the psychological cost of espionage rather than its spectacle. Through the story of a young woman recruited by Mossad and sent to Tehran, I focused on identity as something constantly constructed and deconstructed. I was interested in how loneliness becomes both a tool and a weapon in intelligence work. The tension lies not only in political stakes, but in emotional manipulation and fractured trust. **The film ultimately suggests** that in a world built on secrecy, the greatest risk is losing oneself—where loyalty, love, and truth become indistinguishable from performance.
