On a faraway Colombian mountaintop, what at first glance looks like a hedonistic summer camp, is actually the setting of a mission: child soldiers with war names must make sure that Doctor, a kidnapped American woman, stays alive. But when a battle approaches and a borrowed milk cow is killed by accident, playtime is over.
When I made "Monos", I wanted to plunge into a world suspended between childhood and war. High in the mountains, a group of teenage soldiers guard a hostage while forming their own fragile society, shaped by hierarchy, ritual, and instinct. I was interested in how isolation distorts morality and how violence can become both game and survival mechanism. The landscape itself acts as a psychological force, overwhelming and indifferent. **The film ultimately suggests** that when authority collapses into abstraction, innocence erodes quickly, and identity is shaped by chaos. Through intensity and ambiguity, I sought to explore the thin line between discipline and savagery.
