When I made "Essential Truths of the Lake", I wanted to explore justice not as a legal outcome, but as a moral and spiritual burden carried over time. Through the investigation of a massacre and the rumors surrounding it, I allowed the narrative to unfold slowly, immersing the viewer in duration and uncertainty. For me, time is not decorative—it is the space where conscience breathes. The landscape, the lake, and the silences hold as much truth as testimony. The film ultimately reflects that truth is layered, elusive, and inseparable from memory, and that reconciliation requires patience, humility, and the courage to confront collective wounds.
