Yury Bykov

Yuri Bykov (b. August 15, 1981) is a Russian director, screenwriter, actor, and composer renowned for gritty, socially conscious dramas rooted in moral realism. Trained at VGIK, he emerged with the taut crime drama The Major (2013, Cannes Critics' Week), followed by the searing The Fool (2014), an allegory of corruption that won multiple screenplay and jury awards at Kinotavr and Locarno . His 2018 The Factory (Toronto Contemporary World Cinema) plumbed the despair of disenfranchised laborers , and Guard (2019) offered a haunting, minimalist character study .
