Raymund Ribay Gutierrez

Raymund Ribay Gutierrez (b. 1992) is a Filipino writer-director recognized for his visceral, socially grounded narratives exploring justice, marginalization, and systemic failure. Mentored by Brillante Ma Mendoza, he earned early acclaim with the short Imago (2016)—a poignant maternal portrait that garnered Cannes short-film selection and TIFF Short Cuts Best International Short Film . His follow-up, Judgement (2018), again earned a Cannes short nomination . His feature debut, Verdict (2019), premiered in Venice’s Orizzonti, winning the Special Jury Prize and HFPA award, and thoughtful portrayals of a woman battling domestic injustice . His work merges documentary realism, female-centered empathy, and sharp critiques of legal bureaucracy.
