Marcela Said

Marcela Said

Origin: Chile

Marcela Said (b. March 26, 1972, Santiago, Chile) is a Franco-Chilean director and screenwriter renowned for incisive, socially conscious cinema exploring memory, power, and injustice. After earning a degree in aesthetics in Chile and a master’s in media and languages in Paris, she made her name with documentaries like I Love Pinochet (2001) and El Mocito (2011), which illuminate Chile’s dark past. Her first fiction, The Summer of Flying Fish (2013), addressed Mapuche conflict; Los Perros (2017) scrutinized elite complicity in state violence. More recently, she’s directed episodes of Narcos: Mexico, Lupin, Gangs of London, and in 2024 helmed Ourika, a Prime Video series that topped streaming charts in France and Italy—demonstrating her range from documentary roots to global serialized drama.
