Francisco Márquez

Francisco Márquez

Origin: Argentina

Francisco Márquez (b. October 13, 1981, Buenos Aires) is an Argentine director, screenwriter, and educator celebrated for politically resonant storytelling and poetic realism. A graduate of ENERC, where he now teaches, he debuted with the documentary Después de Sarmiento (2015), presented in Toulouse’s competitive section . His fiction debut The Long Night of Francisco Sanctis (co-directed with Andrea Testa, 2016) competed at Cannes Un Certain Regard, San Sebastián, and won Best International Film at BAFICI . His next feature, A Common Crime (2019/2020), premiered at Berlin, weaving tense socio-political drama and ethical inquiry . Márquez’s cinema blends moral urgency, narrative subtlety, and a keen eye for Argentine collective memory.
