Everardo González

Everardo González (b. 1971, Torreón, Mexico) is a Mexican documentary filmmaker renowned for his rigorous, human-centered portrayals of violence, marginalization, and survival. He gained international recognition with Los ladrones viejos (2007), followed by El cielo abierto (2011) and the acclaimed La libertad del diablo (2017), noted for its stark, mask-centered formal approach to trauma. In A Wolfpack Called Ernesto (2023), he turns to migration, following a group of Central American boys traveling through Mexico, combining observational intimacy with political urgency. González’s cinema merges investigative depth, ethical sensitivity, and a profound commitment to human dignity.
