Elle Sofe Sara

Elle Sofe Sara (b. 1984, Guovdageaidnu/Kautokeino, Norway) is a Sámi filmmaker, artist, and choreographer whose work centers Indigenous rights, land, and cultural resilience. With a background in dance and performance, she brings strong visual and bodily awareness to her cinematic language. Her debut feature Let the River Flow (2023) dramatizes the Alta River protests, exploring Sámi identity and activism. Her recent film Arru (2026) continues this engagement with Sámi heritage, weaving intergenerational memory and contemporary Indigenous experience. Sara’s work blends political urgency with intimate storytelling and a deep commitment to cultural sovereignty.
