Damien Odoul

Damien Odoul

Origin: France

Damien Odoul (b. March 15, 1968) is a French auteur celebrated for his daring formal hybridity and poetic probing of memory, identity, and human otherness. Originally trained in cinema, he emerged with Deep Breath (2000), a stark coming-of-age debut that earned the Grand Jury Prize and FIPRESCI at Venice . He followed with Awaiting the Flood (2003, Cannes Directors’ Fortnight) and the provocative The Story of Richard O. (2006, Venice Horizons) . His war drama The Fear (2015) won the Prix Jean Vigo and played TIFF . In 2021, Théo and the Metamorphosis premiered in Berlinale’s Panorama and won the Grand Prix at Wrocław’s New Horizons Festival, blending experimental voice with empathetic insider perspective . Also a poet, video-artist, and festival chronicler, Odoul’s work interweaves intense emotion, conceptual daring, and sensual lyricism.
