Caetano Gotardo

Caetano Gotardo

Origin: Brazil

Caetano Gotardo (b. 1981, São Paulo, Brazil) is a Brazilian filmmaker, editor, and critic associated with São Paulo’s vibrant independent cinema scene. A graduate of the University of São Paulo and co-founder of the production collective Filmes do Caixote, his work blends formal rigor with political and emotional nuance. He gained international recognition with The Moving Creatures (2013), a fragmented urban portrait of contemporary Brazil, and later co-directed All the Dead Ones (2020, Berlinale), examining Brazil’s colonial legacy and racial tensions. Gotardo’s cinema combines essayistic structure, narrative experimentation, and a sharp sensitivity to history’s lingering presence in everyday life.
