Annarita Zambrano

Annarita Zambrano

Origin: Italy

Annarita Zambrano (b. 1979, Naples, Italy) is an Italian director and screenwriter whose work explores memory, exile, and intergenerational identity with emotional precision. After studying at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome and in France, she directed several acclaimed short films before her feature debut, After the War (Dopo la guerra, 2017), premiered in Cannes’ Un Certain Regard. The film examines the lingering wounds of Italy’s Years of Lead through the story of a former activist living in France. Zambrano’s cinema blends political history with intimate drama, marked by restrained storytelling, moral complexity, and a transnational European perspective.
