Andrei Cohn

Andrei Cohn

Origin: Roumania

Andrei Cohn (b. 1968, Romania) is a Romanian writer-director whose work blends the moral inquiry of the Romanian New Wave with a distinct interest in historical and existential themes. After a career in advertising, he turned to cinema with Back Home (2015), followed by Arest (2019), a tense chamber drama set during the communist era that premiered in Karlovy Vary. His later film Holy Week (2024) revisits 19th-century Romania, examining prejudice and collective violence with austere precision. Cohn’s cinema is marked by rigorous composition, psychological tension, and a sharp examination of power, guilt, and historical memory.
